Fifth Generation (1992- Present)
"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
-Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple Inc.
Fifth Generation; Theory or Reality?
The fifth generation of computing is supposedly comprised of today's very modern and advanced computer technology. It can be defined in many different ways. The advance in machinery has very much furthered in recent decades. Things have been created that would have been down right unimaginable to those from say generations 1 and 2. We as humans are only building off of inventions that have come before ours, which makes the importance we put on computer technology more and more relevant. How did we come from building the 30- ton ENIAC 1 to desiring the thinnest, fastest laptop computer on the market? Computers started out as just simple calculators. Now, they basically do much of our jobs for us. It truly is something bafflingly amazing.
More Modern Apple Products
In the early 1990s, computers were getting smaller and smaller. Apple released the Newton; a early personal digital assistant. This popularized the idea of PDAs.
After the return of Steve Jobs to the company, the famous online Apple Store was launched in 1997. They partnered with rival Microsoft for Microsoft Office software. Apple has since released many computers including iMac series, MacBook series, and iOS software.

Cellphones; Mini Computers
Computers got very small when the first smartphones were released around 1999. The earlier smartphones comprised software in PDAs, digital camera, media players, and GPS. Some examples of more modern and successful smartphones are Blackberry, iPhone series, and Android produced phones.
Android is a Linux based operating system, designed for touchscreen cellphones. Google bought Android Inc. in 2005, and has since created many open source operated phones. It is currently the world's most widely used smartphone platform, coming in close with Apple's iPhone line. Its main hardware platform is 32-bit ARMv7 architecture with a Linux kernel.

Actual Artificial Intelligence
We've recently seen more and more developments and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the computer world. More and more technology have higher level human-like capabilities and intelligence. A good example would be modern gaming. All actions in gaming is computer- controlled and pre-programmed by people. This is possible largely by parallel processing. Parallel processing is the computer being able to carry out multiple commands at once. Voice recognition and Intelligent Personal Assistant are other examples of AI.
